Und jetzt noch mal WIZO! Puh! Aber einen Grund wird es sicherlich haben, warum ich schon wieder in Sachen Punkrock unterwegs war! Ich habe Axel genau nach einer großen Reise erwischt, kurz bevor weitere, kilometer-trächtige Exkursionen ins Haus standen. Hier nun das Resultat eines sehr informativen Gesprächs…

Ihr habt soeben eine neue MCD veröffentlicht. Warum heißt die gerade Herrénhandtasche?
You have just published a new MCD. Why is it called Herrénhandtasche?
Axel: Ja, wir haben das so abgesprochen. Wir haben doch dieses französische Lied (Poupée de cire) gecovert und wollten deshalb auch unser ganzes Konzept so im 70er Jahre Stil halten. Dabei sind auf die etwas seltsame Schrift mit dem schiefen i-Punkt gestoßen, und wir haben auch den „unerlaubte Vervielfältigung-Spruch“ auf der Disc in französisch abgedruckt. Letztendlich hat dann auch noch Herrénhandtasche den angesprochenen „accent“ erhalten. Wir sind halt ’ne lustige Truppe!
Axel: Yes, we have arranged this thus. Nevertheless, we covered this French song (Poupée de cire) and, therefore, wanted to hold also our whole concept in the 70s year style. Besides, have bumped into the a little bit strange writing with the skew dot over the i, and we have also printed the „unauthorised duplication saying“ on the Disc in French. At last Herrénhandtasche has received the „accent“. We are just ‚ an amusing troop!
OK, now it properly starts! What interests everybody of course is: What is with the public prosecutor’s office?
Axel: Ja, die Staatsanwaltschaft… Na ja, nachdem anfangs ein riesen Stress auf uns Kurs genommen hatte, und wir auch eigentlich nicht zu Unrecht (?) in eine ganz schöne Unruhe versetzt wurden, und wir unter Befürchtung des Schlimmsten mit Newsflyers an die Öffentlichkeit gegangen waren, hat sich herausgestellt, daß alles nicht ganz so heißt gegessen wurde, wie es zuvor den Anschein nahm.
Axel: Yes, the public prosecutor’s office. . . Oh well, after in the beginning a giant stress had taken on us , and we were also moved not really wrongfully (?) into quite a nice restlessness, and we had gone under fear of the worst with the news flyer to the public, it has turned out that everything is not so completely bad as it seems to be.
Wir wurden zwar über einen langen Zeitraum hinweg in der Ungewissheit belassen, und letztendlich wurde Hulk Räckordz zu einer hohen Geldstrafe verurteilt, die jedoch nicht ganz so hart war, wie wir anfänglich vermutet hatten. Das alles kam von der Staatsanwaltschaft in Regensburg. Aus Hannover haben wir nichts mehr gehört und gehen nun davon aus, daß (hoffentlich) alles abgeschlossen ist.
Though we were left for a long period away in the uncertainty, and at last Hulk Räckordz was condemned to a high fine which was not so hard as we had supposed at first. All that came from the public prosecutor’s office in Regensburg. From Hannover we have heard nothing more and now we assume hat (hopefully) everything is concluded.
Das Label hat eine Geldstrafe bezahlen müssen, wegen „öffentlichem Aufruf zur Gewalt“ bzw. wegen dem Vertrieb eines Tonträgers, auf dem dies enthalten ist. Ob sich jetzt nochmals Konsequenzen für die Band aus der ganzen Sache ergeben, wissen wir nicht. Schließlich bin ich ja der (böse) Textdichter und die Band der (genauso böse) Interpret, gegen die bis jetzt noch nicht ermittelt wurde, obwohl wir fast täglich damit gerechnet hatten…
The label had to pay a fine, because of „public call to violence“ or because of the distribution of a record on which this is included. Whether now again consequences arise for the band from the whole thing, we do not know. Finally, I am the (bad) songwriter and the band is (just) the interpreter against whom till present was not determined yet, although we had counted almost daily on it. . .
Hat diese ganze Erfahrung Auswirkungen auf eure Musik?
Does this whole experience have effects on your music?
Axel: Wenn ich nun Texte schreibe, werde ich auch jetzt nicht überlegen, was ich darf, und was nicht! Ich bin als passionierter Geschwindigkeits – Beschränkungs – Übertreter, mit den kleinen Illegalitäten des täglichen Lebens bestens vertraut… Ein kleines Problem ist jetzt jedoch, nach dem Erscheinen der Herrénhandtasche, die Reaktion einiger Leute, weil wir auf diesem Release eigentlich nichts besonders politisches drauf haben. Das hat nichts mit der Staatsanwaltsgeschichte zu tun!
Axel: If I write now texts, I will also not consider now what I am allowed to do, and what not! As a passioned speed-limits-violator I know the small illegal acitiviteis of of the everyday life very well. . . Now, nevertheless, a small problem is, after the appearance of the Herrénhandtasche, the reaction of some people… because we have on this release, actually, nothing especially political on it. This has nothing to do with the public prosecutor history!
Das liegt vorwiegend an mir, denn ich habe einfach kein so brennend interessantes neues Thema aufgegriffen, um einen Text darüber zu schreiben. Außerdem waren wir mit WIZO sehr viel unterwegs auf Tour – da kriegt man nicht unbedingt soviel Politik mit…
This lies mainly with me, because I have simply taken up no such burning interesting new subjects to write over a text. Moreover, we were with WIZO a lot on tour – there one gets not necessarily so much politics with. . .
Apropos Tour. Erzähl‘ uns was über eure soeben beendete U.S.A.-Tournee!
Tell us about your just finished U. S. A. tour!
Axel: Wir sind erst vor vier Tagen aus den U.S.A. zurückgekommen, und so sind meine Eindrücke noch sehr, sehr frisch, aber auch noch relativ unsortiert! Unter dem Strich betrachtet war die Tour eine hammergeile Sache, bei der wir viele Erfahrungen gesammelt haben – kurzum ein voller Erfolg!
Axel: We have come back only four days ago from the USA, and thus my impressions still are very much very freshly, but still relatively unsorted! The tour was a damned cool thing where we have collected many experiences – in short a full success, all in all!
Ganz ohne Erwartungen sind wir in die Staaten geflogen, denn man kennt ja die „Horrorstories“ von anderen Bands… Wir hatten ja auch ein wenig den Eindruck, daß Mike wohl der einzige wäre, der WIZO auf seinem Label gut findet. Außerdem war da ja auch noch der leicht intolerant erscheinende amerikanische Markt, gegen alles das, was von draußen kommt, zumal wir uns ja nur selten in englischer Sprache musikalisch artikulieren…
Completely without expectations we have flown in the states, because one knows the „horror stories“ of other bands. . . We had also a little the impression that Mike would probably be the only one who likes WIZO on his label. Moreover, there was the slightly intolerant appearing American market, against everything what comes from outdoors, particularly as we express ourselves only seldom into English language musically. . .
Sehr schnell wurden wir aber eines besseren belehrt, und nicht nur deswegen, weil schon über 12.000 (in knapp 8 Wochen!) unserer Tonträger in den U.S.A. verkauft waren. Unsere Tour hat sich in zwei Teile gegliedert. Zum Ersten spielten wir auf ei-ner Art Festivaltour, täglich mit 15 bis 17 Bands zusammen und Skateboardshow. Ein kleiner Traum, der sogar in Deutschland für uns nur sehr schwer zu realisieren wäre. Wir spielten zwar nur auf der Nebenbühne, meist anfangs der Shows, aber wir hatten sehr, sehr positive Reaktionen aus dem Publikum, und wir hatten ein gutes Verhältnis zu den Bands wie L7, QUICKSAND, NO USE FOR A NAME, SICK OF IT ALL, LAG WAGON, TILT, SEAWEED, FLUFF und, und, und…
However, very fast we were taught of a better one, and not only, because already more than 12,000 (in just 8 weeks!) of our records were sold in the USA. Our tour has been made up of two parts. Firstly, we played a sort of a festival tour, daily with from 15 to 17 bands plus a skateboard show. A small dream which would be to be realised even in Germany for us only very hard. Though we played only on the side stage, mostly at the beginning of the shows, but we had very much, very positive reactions from the audience, and we had a good relation to the bands like L7, QUICKSAND, NO USE FOR A NAME, SICK OF IT ALL, LAG WAGON, TILT, SEAWEED, FLUFF and, and, and. . .
Ein wenig störend war das etwas aufdringliche Sponsoring (Converse-Flaggen, Skateboard-Werbung, Sonnenbrillen-, …) des Festivals, das einen Großteil der 25 Auftritte beinhaltete, angefangen an der Ostküste, über den Norden der U.S.A., mit 2 Shows in Canada bis rüber nach Los Angeles. Zum Zweiten kam dann unsere spezielle Clubtour, die wir ganz alleine durchzogen. Das war dann natürlich ein gehöriger Gegensatz zu Festivaltour.
The a little bit meddlesome sponsorship (Converse flags, skateboard advertisement, sunglasses. . . ) of the festival which contained a large part of 25 appearances was a little annoying, the tour started on the east coast, across the north of the USA, with 2 shows in Canada to over here to Los Angeles . Then came our special club tour which we pulled through completely alone. Then this was of course a big contrast to the festival tour.
Nachdem wir jeden Abend vor 2000 – 6000 Besuchern gespielt hatten, waren wir sehr schnell wieder auf dem Boden der Tatsachen zurück. Auf der Clubtour waren die Besucherzahlen ähnlich wie in Deutschland, wenn man nach seiner ersten CD unterwegs ist, also es gab alles zwischen 10 und 150 zahlenden Besuchern. Ja, die gesamte Tour war ganz schön lange. Wir hatten brutal viel zu fahren (mehr als 20.000km!), allein schon wegen der großen Entfernungen.
After we had played every evening between 2000 – to 6000 visitors, we were very fast again on the ground of the facts back. On the club tour the numbers of visitors were as in Germany if one is on tour after his first CD, so there was everything between 10 and 150 paying visitors. Yes, the whole tour was quite long. We had to drive brutally a lot (more than 20,000 km!), just because of the big distances.
Bleiben wir beim Touren. Wie seid ihr eigentlich an die Tour mit den ÄRZTEN gekommen?
If we remain at the topic touring. How did your tour with DIE ÄRZTEN happen?
Axel: Wir kennen DIE ÄRZTE schon länger. Auf deren letztjähriger Tour habe ich mich mit ihnen mal wieder unterhalten, und da stellte sich heraus, daß wir schon damals für die Tour im Gespräch waren! Jetzt, nach dieser ganzen Staatsanwaltsscheiße hat es dann geklappt, was mich, als alten ÄRZTE-Fan wahnsinnig freut!
Axel: We know DIE ÄRZTE for quite a long time. On their last year’s tour I have talked to them once more, and it turned out that we were under discussion even then for the tour! Now, then after this whole public prosecutor shit it has worked, what pleases me, being an old ÄRZTE fan!
So, Axel, was willst du unseren Lesern noch Wichtiges sagen?
So, Axel what other important things do you want to say our readers?
Axel: Ich muß unbedingt betonen, daß man die Herrénhandtasche nicht als vollwertigen Nachfolger der UUAARRGH! CD sehen kann. Aufgrund des positiven Tourstresses hatten wir einfach nicht genug Zeit einen vollwertigen Nachfolger einzuspielen. Wir wollten aber auch nicht knapp zwei Jahre zwischen letztem und nächsten Release verstreichen lassen, deshalb die Herrénhandtasche. Vielleicht gibt es auch bald einen Bandhouseremix von ‚Raum Der Zeit‘, das stelle ich mir absolut witzig vor! Nach der erfolgreichen U.S.A.-Tour könnte uns, mit etwas Glück, auch eine Japan-Tour ins Haus stehen!
Axel: I must absolutely stress that the record Herrénhandtasche is not a full successor of the UUAARRGH! CD. Because of the positive tour stress we simply did not have enough time for a full successor. However, we did not want to let also just two years between the last and the next release, therefore, the Herrénhandtasche. Maybe there also is soon a Bandhouseremix of the song „Raum der Zeit“ out, this would be absolutely wittily! After the successful U. S. A. tour a Japan tour could with some luck also happen to us.

Puh, trotz daß ich dieses Interview relativ kurz gehalten habe, sind so viele Infos drin, die ich erst einmal gedanklich verarbeiten mußte. Ich wünsche WIZO wirklich alles Gute, und daß auch alles klappt, was da so im Raum (der Zeit) steht!
Puh, in spite of that I have held this interview relatively short, there are so many infos in it which I had to process first of all. I wish WIZO really all the best, and that also everything functions what stands there thus in the „Raum der Zeit“ (space of time)!
