Whatispunk

From the blurb „…is a music primer for children – an introduction to the punk revolution, recreated in vivid 3D clay illustrations and told through rhyming couplets…“ First the amazing clay scenes by Yi must be credited, nice art that comes across very detailed and at the same time with a childish vibe – I’m sure kids will like this and probably sometime their parents too or even more. You get to see a front scene of CBGBs from the early punk days, the Ramones, Iggy Pop crowdsurfing, Punks in London, the Sex Pistols, the Clash, Siouxsie, Blondie, Slits, Germs, Circle Jerks, Descendents, Rollins, Bad Brains, Misfits and Crass (on the same page!).

Also the kid gets introduced to record stores and diy spaces and fanzines. The words that go along by Morse are short and – of course – do not tell the story of punk, only a very rough frame, but I’m sure no kid will complain about this. If kids „need“ to know about punk – of course they need – can be discussed by parents. The more I look at it, the more I understand that it will be a parents decision, since small kids usually dont pick their children books – of course. Parents should just ensure that their kids also learn about other important issues, like evolution. I have zero experience or knowledge about this kind of books, so I better shut up. +30 pages (21,1 x 21,1 cm), well illustrated. 15,95 $ US (dolf)
