„Riding Modern Art brings together a collection of 74 black and white photographs of people skateboarding on sculptures in public spaces, shot by 43 photographers“ I guess this sentence from the one sheet sums it up. There is no artsy drivel in the book, Zarka lets the photos speak (well, you get the basic info who built the sculpture when and where, the name of the skater, the trick he does and the name of the photographer). And speak they do, some more – some less, but all in big format (21,5 x 30 cm). Cool to look at, the different sculptures and the sometimes awesome tricks the skaters do. Most of the photos are really good, sometimes you need to look for the skater for a second, it is not the usual up and down – this time on a higher level.

Looking for my favourite shot again, I realized I can not really pick one, too many great moves in top photos… but if I had to, it would be the photo by Marcel Veldmann from Oskar Rozenberg doing a frontside ollie on a sculpture (Circula vital) by Domingo Diaz Vega in Agaete. Ten sculptors refused to have their artwork reproduced in this book, those pages are left empty only with the information about what could have been seen. The binding could be a bit stronger for a 152 pages book this size, but then you would not get if for the affordable cost. 22,00 Euro (dolf)
